The 12 Times Table tool shows the full 12 times table, from 12 × 1 = 12 up to 12 × 12 = 144, and lets you practice it on screen or print a worksheet. It runs in your web browser, is free, and needs no sign-up. Nothing you enter is uploaded.
Use it to check a single fact in seconds, or to drill the 12 times multiplication table for a few minutes at a time. The table opens in large type by default, so it works well as a reference chart. When you are ready to test yourself, switch to the quiz or the printable sheet with one click. The same tool also covers the 12 multiplication table for division and missing-number practice.
How to use the 12 Times Table
- Look at the learning view, which opens by default. It shows 12 × 1 to 12 × 12 in large type, with the ones digit of each answer highlighted.
- Click “Practice on screen”. Choose a Question type, a Number of questions and a Countdown timer, and tick “Check as soon as I have typed enough digits” if you want answers checked without pressing Enter.
- Type each answer into the labelled box and press Enter or Check. The right or wrong result and the full fact appear straight away.
- Click “Printable worksheet”. Set the Worksheet type, Problems, Columns, Blanks and “Times table goes up to”. Tick or untick “Include both orders” and “Include answer key”, and set the Paper size to US Letter or A4.
- Click “Print or save as PDF”. Your browser’s print dialog can also save the sheet as a PDF.
The page address stores your settings, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same view. “New worksheet” gives a different set with the same settings, and “Reset settings” restores the defaults.
A simple routine for the 12 times table: read the table in the learning view, answer 20 questions in Practice on screen, then print a worksheet of missing factors such as 12 × __ = 84 and keep the answer key for checking.
What are the patterns in the 12 times table?
The 12 times table follows a few patterns you can check yourself. Each answer is 12 more than the one before, so the table is the same as counting by 12s: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72 and so on. Every answer is even, because 12 is even.
The ones digit follows a fixed cycle. It goes 2, 4, 6, 8, 0 and then repeats, so the pattern repeats every five answers. Because 12 ends in 2, the ones digit rises by 2 each time, wrapping back to 0 after 8.
Add the digits of any answer and the total is a multiple of 3. For example, 12 × 7 = 84, and 8 + 4 = 12. The digit sums that appear are 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15.
How do I learn the 12 times table quickly?
Start with the facts you already know. Each fact with a number smaller than 12 already appears in a smaller table, because 12 × 3 and 3 × 12 are the same fact. If you know the tables from 1 to 11, you only need one new fact: 12 × 12 = 144.
Then learn the table in short sessions:
- Say the counting-by-12s row out loud: 12, 24, 36, 48 and so on up to 144.
- Learn the ones-digit cycle of 2, 4, 6, 8, 0 so you can check whether an answer looks right.
- For any fact you do not know, use repeated addition. For example, 12 × 4 = 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 48.
- Practice the facts you miss, not the ones you already know, in sessions of five to ten minutes.
Is there a trick for the 12 times table?
Yes. Split 12 into 10 + 2, then use tables you already know. For 12 × 7, work out 10 × 7 = 70 and 2 × 7 = 14, then add them: 70 + 14 = 84.
You can also use 12 = 2 × 6. Find 6 × 7 = 42 and double it to get 84. Another route is 12 = 3 × 4: find 4 × 7 = 28 and triple it to get 84. Choose whichever method feels easiest for the fact in front of you. For 12 × 10, just add a zero to 12 to get 120.
What do all the answers in the 12 times table add up to?
The twelve answers from 12 × 1 to 12 × 12 add up to 936, because 1 + 2 + … + 12 = 78 and each answer is 12 times one of those numbers. Halfway through the table, 12 × 6 = 72; doubling that gives 12 × 12 = 144.
Questions teachers and parents ask
Can I print the 12 times table or a 12 times table worksheet?
Yes. Open the "Printable worksheet" view and click "Print or save as PDF". The answer key prints on its own separate page when "Include answer key" is ticked. Choose US Letter or A4 paper before you print.
Is there a free 12 times table quiz I can do on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Open "Practice on screen" in your browser, and there is no app to install or account to create. The quiz shows one question at a time and keeps the cursor in the answer box, so you can type and press Enter. On a phone, the number keypad appears automatically. At the end, the quiz lists the facts you missed, with buttons to practice them or play again.
How do I make a 12 times table worksheet with missing numbers or division facts?
Open "Printable worksheet" and pick a Worksheet type. "Missing factor" gives problems such as 7 × __ = 56, and when both orders are on it also gives __ × 8 = 56. "Division facts" gives problems such as 56 ÷ 7 = __. Set the Blanks option to choose how many answers are left empty.
How many different problems can a 12 times table worksheet have?
With both orders on, there are 23 different problems for the 12 times table: 12 × k and k × 12 for k from 1 to 12, with 12 × 12 counted once. With both orders off, there are 12. A worksheet cannot repeat a problem, so if you request more than the available number, the sheet shows the smaller number and says so.
Can the table go past 12 × 12?
Yes. Set "Times table goes up to" to × 15 or × 20 for a longer table. The × 15 view ends with 12 × 15 = 180, and the patterns on the page update to match the limit you choose.
Do the quiz and the worksheet use other times tables?
No. The quiz and the worksheet use only the 12 times table. To practice other tables, use the related pages listed below.
