The 4 Times Table tool shows the 4 times table, gives you a practice quiz on screen and creates printable 4 times table worksheets. It runs in your web browser, it is free, and you do not need an account or sign-up. By default the table covers 4 × 1 to 4 × 12, and you can extend it to 4 × 15 or 4 × 20. The tool is useful whether you are learning the 4 times multiplication table for the first time or need extra practice with the 4 multiplication table facts.

The 4 times table is the 2 times table doubled, so 4 × 7 = 28 is double 2 × 7 = 14.

The page covers 4 × 1 to 4 × 12 by default, and Times table goes up to extends the table to × 15 or × 20.

How to use the 4 Times Table tool

  1. Open the page. The learning view is shown first, with 4 × 1 to 4 × 12 in large type and the ones digit of each answer highlighted.
  2. Set “Times table goes up to” to × 10, × 12 (the default), × 15 or × 20.
  3. Select “Practice on screen” to start a quiz. Choose a Question type, a Number of questions and a Countdown timer, then type each answer in the box and press Enter or Check.
  4. Select “Printable worksheet” to make a sheet. Choose a Worksheet type, Problems, Columns and Blanks, and tick or untick “Include answer key”.
  5. Check the sheet preview, then press “Print or save as PDF” and choose US Letter or A4 paper.

“Include both orders” is on by default, so facts such as 4 × 7 and 7 × 4 both appear. The page address stores your settings, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same view. “New worksheet” makes a different sheet with the same settings, and the short worksheet code under the buttons identifies each sheet. “Reset settings” restores the defaults.

A simple routine for the 4 times table: read the table in the learning view, answer 20 questions in Practice on screen, then print a worksheet of missing factors such as 4 × __ = 28 and keep the answer key for checking.

What are the patterns in the 4 times table?

The 4 times table counts by 4s, so each answer is 4 more than the one before: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 and so on. Every answer is even, because 4 is an even number. The ones digits follow a set cycle of 4, 8, 2, 6, 0, then repeat, so the pattern repeats every 5 answers. Each step moves the ones digit up by 4, and past 9 it wraps back to 0.

How do I learn the 4 times table quickly?

Start with the facts you do not already know. If you know the 1, 2 and 3 times tables, the 4 times table adds only 9 new facts, from 4 × 4 = 16 up to 4 × 12 = 48. The other facts repeat ones you know, because 4 × 3 = 12 and 3 × 4 = 12 are the same fact.

Next, use counting by 4s and repeated addition. For example, 4 × 2 = 4 + 4 = 8 and 4 × 3 = 4 + 4 + 4 = 12. Then practice with the quiz. Within one round every fact is asked once before any fact repeats, and the end screen lists the missed facts with a “Practice the missed facts” button.

Is there a trick for the 4 times table?

Yes. Because 4 = 2 × 2, a number times 4 is the 2 times table doubled. To work out 4 × 7, find 2 × 7 = 14, then double 14 to get 28. The tool also notes that the digits 1, 2, 3 and 4 count up in a row, which is a handy way to remember 3 × 4 = 12.

Can I print the 4 times table or a 4 times table worksheet?

Yes. Select “Printable worksheet”, then choose “Table in order” to list 4 × 1, 4 × 2 and so on up to the limit you set. For practice, choose Mixed facts, Missing factor or Division facts. Press “Print or save as PDF” to print, or use your browser’s print dialog to save a PDF. When “Include answer key” is ticked, the answers print on their own separate page after the worksheet.

Is there a free 4 times table quiz I can do on a phone or tablet?

Yes. The “Practice on screen” view is free, runs in the browser and needs no sign-up. It shows one question at a time, such as 4 × 9 = ?, and you type the answer and press Enter or Check. Right or wrong is shown straight away with the full fact, and phones show the number keypad. “Skip” counts a question as missed, and “Finish now” ends the quiz.

How do I make a 4 times table worksheet with missing numbers or division facts?

Select “Printable worksheet”, then choose “Missing factor” for problems like __ × 7 = 28, or “Division facts” for problems like 28 ÷ 4 = __. With both orders on, missing factor sheets also show forms like __ × 8 = 32. Use Problems and Columns to set the size and layout. For example, with worksheet code k5print and the default settings, the Division facts sheet starts with 28 ÷ 4 = __ (answer 7), 20 ÷ 4 = __ (answer 5) and 40 ÷ 4 = __ (answer 10).

Questions teachers and parents ask

Does the 4 times table go past 12?

Yes. "Times table goes up to" offers × 10, × 12, × 15 and × 20. The × 15 view ends with 4 × 15 = 60.

Do I need an account to use the tool?

No. The tool runs in your web browser, nothing is uploaded and it is free.

What does "Include both orders" do?

It mixes both orders of each fact, such as 4 × 7 and 7 × 4, and it is on by default. Turn it off to practice only one order.

Why does my worksheet have fewer problems than I chose?

A worksheet never repeats a problem. With both orders on there are 23 different 4 times table problems, and with both orders off there are 12. If your settings allow fewer than you requested, the sheet shows the smaller number and says so.

What is a worksheet code?

Each sheet has a short code shown under the buttons. The same code with the same settings always gives the same sheet, while "New worksheet" gives a different random set.

Can the quiz check my answer as I type?

Yes. Tick "Check as soon as I have typed enough digits" to have the answer checked automatically. It is off by default.

What is 4 × 12?

4 × 12 = 48. It is the last fact in the standard table, and 12 × 4 gives the same answer.
