The 5 times table tool shows the 5 times table from 5 × 1 to 5 × 12, and it lets you practice those facts on screen or print a worksheet. It runs in your web browser, it is free, and no account or sign-up is needed. Nothing is uploaded.
The page has three views: the table itself (the default), a practice quiz and a printable worksheet. The quiz and worksheet use only the 5 times table, so you can focus on the 5 multiplication table facts you find hardest. Use the table to see the answers at a glance, the quiz to test recall, and the worksheet for paper practice at home or in class.
How to use the 5 Times Table tool
- Choose a view with the three buttons above the work area: the learning view, “Practice on screen” or “Printable worksheet”. The learning view opens first.
- In the learning view, set “Times table goes up to” to × 10, × 12 (the default), × 15 or × 20 to change how far the table runs.
- For a quiz, open “Practice on screen” and set Question type, Number of questions and Countdown timer. Tick “Check as soon as I have typed enough digits” if you want answers checked automatically.
- For paper practice, open “Printable worksheet” and set Worksheet type, Problems and Columns. Use Blanks to choose how many answers are left empty.
- Leave “Include both orders (7 × 8 and 8 × 7)” ticked to mix 5 × 7 with 7 × 5, or untick it to use one order only.
- Keep “Include answer key” ticked if you want the answers on a separate page after the worksheet.
- Set the Paper size to US Letter or A4, then select “Print or save as PDF”. The browser’s print dialog can also save a PDF.
Select “New worksheet” for a different set of problems with the same settings. Each sheet has a short worksheet code under the buttons, and the same code with the same settings always gives the same sheet. The page address stores your settings, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same view. “Reset settings” restores the defaults.
What are the patterns in the 5 times table?
The 5 times table follows three simple patterns that you can check in the learning view. Each answer is 5 more than the one before, so the table is the same as counting by 5s: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and onwards. You can use this counting row to check any answer quickly.
The answers also alternate between odd and even: odd, even, odd, even. This happens because 5 is odd, and an odd number times an odd number is odd, while an odd number times an even number is even. The ones digit follows a pattern too: 5 times an odd number always ends in 5, and 5 times an even number always ends in 0.
How do I learn the 5 times table quickly?
Start with the facts you already know, because most of the 5 times table is not new. 5 × 3 = 15 and 3 × 5 = 15 are the same fact, so every fact with a number smaller than 5 already appears in a smaller table. If you know the 1 to 4 times tables, you only need to learn 8 new facts, from 5 × 5 = 25 up to 5 × 12 = 60.
Learn those new facts by counting by 5s, then check each one with repeated addition. For example, 5 × 4 = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20. Practice in short rounds rather than one long session. In a quiz round, every fact is asked once before any fact repeats, and the end screen lists the facts you missed, so you can practice just those. You can also connect the facts to real life: on a clock face, each number k means 5 × k minutes past the hour, and k nickels are worth 5 × k cents.
What do all the answers in the 5 times table add up to?
The twelve answers from 5 × 1 to 5 × 12 add up to 390, because 1 + 2 + … + 12 = 78 and each answer is 5 times one of those numbers. Halfway through the table, 5 × 6 = 30; doubling that gives 5 × 12 = 60.
Halving helps as well: 5 × 8 = 40 is half of 10 × 8 = 80, and the same works for every fact in the table.
Questions teachers and parents ask
Is there a trick for the 5 times table?
Yes. Halve the other number to get the tens digit. For 5 × 8, half of 8 is 4, so the answer has 4 tens: 40. For odd numbers, halve and ignore the leftover half, then add 5 ones: for 5 × 7, half of 7 is 3, so the answer is 35.
Can I print the 5 times table or a 5 times table worksheet?
Printing is done through the worksheet. Open "Printable worksheet", choose your settings, and select "Print or save as PDF" on US Letter or A4 paper. If you print during a quiz, the worksheet for the same settings prints, not the quiz screen.
Is there a free 5 times table quiz I can do on a phone or tablet?
Yes. "Practice on screen" is free, runs in the browser and needs no sign-up. It shows one question at a time, and you type your answer and press Enter or Check. On a phone, the number keypad is requested automatically.
How do I make a 5 times table worksheet with missing numbers or division facts?
Open "Printable worksheet" and set Worksheet type to Missing factor (for example 5 × __ = 50) or Division facts (for example 50 ÷ 5 = __). Then set Problems and Columns. With both orders on, you get problems in both directions, such as __ × 5 = 25.
What happens if I ask for more problems than the tool can make?
With both orders on, there are 23 different 5 times table problems, and 12 with both orders off. If you request more than the available number, the sheet shows the smaller number and says so.
