The 6 Times Table tool shows the 6 times table from 6 × 1 to 6 × 12, lets you practice it on screen, and makes printable 6 times table worksheets. It runs in your web browser, it is free, and no account or sign-up is needed. Nothing you enter is uploaded.
The table view opens first. Practice on screen asks one fact at a time and shows whether each answer is right. The printable worksheet can use missing factors and division facts, and it can include an answer key on its own page. You can change any setting and the sheet preview updates straight away, so you can try different versions of the same 6 multiplication table practice.
How to use the 6 Times Table
- Look at the three buttons above the work area: the learning view, “Practice on screen” and “Printable worksheet”. The learning view shows the table itself.
- Set “Times table goes up to” to × 10, × 12 (the default), × 15 or × 20. This changes how far the table runs.
- Click “Practice on screen”. Choose a Question type, a Number of questions and a Countdown timer. Tick “Check as soon as I have typed enough digits” if you want the answer checked without pressing Enter.
- Type each answer in the labelled box and press Enter or the Check button. Use “Skip” to count a question as missed or “Finish now” to end the quiz.
- Click “Printable worksheet”. Choose the Worksheet type, Problems, Columns and Blanks. Tick or untick “Include answer key” and set Paper to US Letter or A4.
- Click “Print or save as PDF”. The browser’s print dialog can also save a PDF.
“Include both orders” is ticked by default, so 6 × 7 and 7 × 6 both appear. “New worksheet” gives a different set of problems with the same settings. The page address stores your settings, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same view. “Reset settings” restores the defaults.
A simple routine for the 6 times table: read the table in the learning view, answer 20 questions in Practice on screen, then print a worksheet of missing factors such as 6 × __ = 42 and keep the answer key for checking.
What are the patterns in the 6 times table?
The answers follow a few patterns you can check by eye: they count up by 6, they are all even, and their ones digits repeat every five answers. Each answer is 6 more than the one before, so the table is the same as counting by 6s: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 and so on.
The ones digits go 6, 2, 8, 4, 0, then repeat. Each step moves down by 4, wrapping around past 0, because 6 is 10 − 4. Every answer is even, because 6 is even, and 6 times an even number ends in that same digit: 6 × 2 = 12, 6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 6 = 36, 6 × 8 = 48.
Add the digits of any answer and the total is a multiple of 3. For example, 6 × 7 = 42 and 4 + 2 = 6. The digit sums that appear in this table are 3, 6, 9 and 12. The patterns shown in the tool are recalculated for whichever limit you choose.
How do I learn the 6 times table quickly?
Start with the facts you already know, then focus on the new ones. Because 6 × 3 and 3 × 6 are the same fact, every fact with a number under 6 already appears in a smaller table. If you know the tables from 1 to 5, you only have seven new facts: 6 × 6 = 36 up to 6 × 12 = 72.
Next, use counting by 6s and repeated addition. For example, 6 × 4 = 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 24. The learning view shows the ones digit of every answer in a highlighted color, which helps you spot the repeating pattern.
Then practice on screen. Within one round, every fact is asked once before any fact repeats, and the same fact is never asked twice in a row. The end screen lists the missed facts so you can practice those.
Is there a trick for the 6 times table?
Yes. Split 6 into smaller numbers whose tables you already know. Three ways to do this work for every fact in the table:
- 6 = 5 + 1: 6 × 7 = (5 × 7) + (1 × 7) = 35 + 7 = 42.
- 6 = 2 × 3: 3 × 7 = 21, and double 21 is 42.
- 6 = 3 × 2: 2 × 7 = 14, and three times 14 is 42.
Choose the one that feels easiest and use it until the answers come quickly. Then check your answers with the digit sum rule: the digits of 42 add to 6, which is a multiple of 3.
Can I print the 6 times table or a 6 times table worksheet?
Yes. Click “Printable worksheet”, choose US Letter or A4 for Paper, and click “Print or save as PDF”. If you tick “Include answer key”, the key prints on its own separate page after the worksheet. The browser’s print dialog can also save the sheet as a PDF file.
If you print while a quiz is running, the tool prints the worksheet for the same settings, not the quiz screen.
Is there a free 6 times table quiz I can do on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Click “Practice on screen”. The quiz runs in your browser, is free and needs no sign-up. It shows one question at a time, such as 6 × 9 = ?. You type the answer in the labelled box and press Enter or Check. The right or wrong result and the full fact appear straight away, and the score updates.
On a phone, the number keypad is requested automatically. On a computer, the cursor stays in the answer box after each question. You can choose the question type, the number of questions, a countdown timer from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, and automatic checking.
How do I make a 6 times table worksheet with missing numbers or division facts?
Click “Printable worksheet” and choose the Worksheet type. “Missing factor” gives problems such as __ × 7 = 42. With “Include both orders” ticked, you also get forms like __ × 8 = 56. “Division facts” gives problems such as 42 ÷ 6 = __.
Then set Problems (12 to 40), Columns (2 to 5) and Blanks (every answer, most answers or about half). For example, the worksheet code k5print with the Missing factor setting gives __ × 7 = 42 (answer 6) and 60 ÷ 10 = __ with the Division facts setting gives an answer of 6. Keep “Include answer key” ticked so you can check the results.
Questions teachers and parents ask
What is 6 × 12?
6 × 12 = 72. It is the last fact in the default 6 times table. The "Times table goes up to" setting can extend the table to × 15 or × 20.
Why are all the answers in the 6 times table even?
Every answer is even because 6 is even. Multiplying by an even number always gives an even result.
How many different 6 times table problems can a worksheet have?
With "Include both orders" ticked, there are 23 different problems: 6 × k and k × 6 for k from 1 to 12. With it unticked, there are 12. If your settings ask for more problems than are available, the sheet shows the smaller number and says so.
Does the table go beyond 6 × 12?
Yes. "Times table goes up to" offers × 10, × 12 (the default), × 15 and × 20. The × 15 view ends with 6 × 15 = 90.
What is a half dozen, and how does it connect to 6?
A half dozen is 6 eggs, so two half dozens (6 × 2) make a dozen, which is 12. Another everyday example: an insect has 6 legs, so k insects have 6 × k legs.
Will my settings still be there if I come back later?
The page address stores your settings, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same view. Click "Reset settings" to go back to the defaults.
Can the quiz ask the same fact twice in a row?
No. Within one round, every fact is asked once before any fact repeats, and the same fact is never asked twice in a row.
