The 9 times table page is a free tool that shows the nine times table, a practice quiz and a printable worksheet, all in your web browser. Nothing is uploaded, and you do not need an account or sign-up to use it.
The learning view shows 9 × 1 to 9 × 12 in large type, with a row that counts by 9s. You can change the table to run to × 10, × 15 or × 20. The practice quiz and the worksheet use only the 9 times table, so you can focus on one set of facts at a time.
The page covers 9 × 1 to 9 × 12 by default, and Times table goes up to extends the table to × 15 or × 20.
How to use the 9 Times Table
- Choose a view with the three buttons above the work area: the learning view (the table itself), “Practice on screen” or “Printable worksheet”.
- In the learning view, read 9 × 1 to 9 × 12 and the counting row. To change how far the table runs, set “Times table goes up to” to × 10, × 12, × 15 or × 20.
- For a quiz, open “Practice on screen”. Set “Question type”, “Number of questions” and “Countdown timer”. Type each answer in the labelled box and press Enter or the Check button.
- For a worksheet, open “Printable worksheet”. Set “Worksheet type”, “Problems”, “Columns” and “Blanks”. Keep “Include answer key” ticked if you want the answers on a separate page.
- Check the sheet preview. It updates as soon as you change a setting.
- Choose the paper size (US Letter or A4), then press “Print or save as PDF”. The browser’s print dialog can also save a PDF.
“New worksheet” makes a different set of problems with the same settings. The page address stores your settings, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same view, and “Reset settings” restores the defaults.
A simple routine for the 9 times table: read the table in the learning view, answer 20 questions in Practice on screen, then print a worksheet of missing factors such as 9 × __ = 63 and keep the answer key for checking.
What are the patterns in the 9 times table?
The 9 times table has several patterns that hold from 9 × 1 to 9 × 10. Each answer is 9 more than the one before, so the table matches counting by 9s: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, and so on. The tens digit goes up by one each time while the ones digit goes down by one: 09, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90.
Digit sums also repeat. Add the digits of any answer from 9 × 1 to 9 × 10 and the total is 9, so 6 + 3 = 9 for 63. Odd and even answers alternate because 9 is odd: 9 × k is odd when k is odd and even when k is even.
How do I learn the 9 times table quickly?
Start by noticing which facts you already know. Because 9 × 3 = 27 is the same fact as 3 × 9 = 27, every fact with a number smaller than 9 already appears in a smaller table. If you know the tables from 1 to 8, you only need four new facts: 9 × 9 = 81, 9 × 10 = 90, 9 × 11 = 99 and 9 × 12 = 108.
Use the learning view to see the facts in large type, with the ones digit highlighted. Say the repeated addition lines aloud for the small facts, such as 9 × 4 = 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 = 36. Then test yourself in the practice quiz, where the full fact is shown straight away after each answer.
Is there a trick for the 9 times table?
Yes. Split 9 into 10 minus 1. To find 9 × 7, work out 10 × 7 = 70, subtract 7 and get 63. This works for any 9 × k, because 9 × k is 10 × k minus k.
A second method is the finger trick. Hold both hands up with the fingers numbered 1 to 10 from left to right. Fold down finger k: the fingers to its left are the tens digit and the fingers to its right are the ones digit. It works for 9 × 1 to 9 × 10. A third idea is that 9 = 3 × 3, so the 9 times table is the 3 times table tripled. For example, 3 × 7 = 21, and three times 21 is 63.
Can I print the 9 times table or a 9 times table worksheet?
Yes. Choose “Printable worksheet”, set your options and press “Print or save as PDF”. You can choose US Letter or A4 paper, and the answer key prints on its own separate page after the worksheet when “Include answer key” is ticked.
If you print during a quiz, the page prints the worksheet for the same settings, not the quiz screen. The browser’s print dialog can also save the sheet as a PDF file.
Is there a free 9 times table quiz I can do on a phone or tablet?
Yes. “Practice on screen” is a free quiz that runs in your web browser, so it works on a phone or tablet with a browser. It shows one question at a time, such as 8 × 9 = ?, and you type the answer in the box.
On a phone, the number keypad is requested. The cursor stays in the answer box, so you can type and press Enter without touching the mouse. “Skip” counts a question as missed, and “Finish now” ends the quiz early. A countdown timer can end the quiz when it reaches zero.
How do I make a 9 times table worksheet with missing numbers or division facts?
Open “Printable worksheet” and set “Worksheet type” to Missing factor or Division facts. Missing factor sheets show problems such as __ × 9 = 54, with the answer 6. Division sheets show problems such as 54 ÷ 6 = __, with the answer 9.
Then choose how many problems you want (12 to 40), the number of columns (2 to 5) and how many answers are blank. Each worksheet has a short code under the buttons. The same code with the same settings always gives the same sheet.
Questions teachers and parents ask
Does the table go past 9 × 12?
Yes. The "Times table goes up to" control offers × 10, × 12 (the default), × 15 and × 20. The × 15 view ends with 9 × 15 = 135.
Do the quiz and the worksheet include other times tables?
No. The quiz and the worksheet use only the 9 times table.
What happens if I ask for more problems than the 9 times table has?
The sheet shows the smaller number and says so. With "Include both orders" on, there are 23 different problems. With it off, there are 12.
Does the quiz repeat questions?
Within one round, every fact is asked once before any fact repeats, and the same fact is never asked twice in a row. The end screen lists the missed facts and offers "Practice the missed facts".
Does the quiz check my answer as I type?
Only if you tick "Check as soon as I have typed enough digits", which is off by default. Otherwise, press Enter or the Check button.
What does the worksheet code do?
Each sheet has a short code shown under the buttons. Entering the same code with the same settings gives the same sheet, while "New worksheet" makes a different set with the same settings.
What is 9 × 12?
9 × 12 = 108. It is the last fact in the standard table, and 12 × 9 gives the same answer.
