This free tool makes a printable cursive B practice sheet for the capital B and the lowercase b in traditional US cursive. It draws each letter as a dark model followed by light gray copies to trace, and it adds rows of letter pairs and practice words that contain b.
The sheet is made in your web browser. Nothing is uploaded, and you do not need an account or sign-up. You can change the letters, line size, number of rows and paper size, and the preview updates as you go. When the sheet looks right, print it or save it as a PDF.
The tool is one of 27 cursive pages, so you can make a sheet for any letter from a to z using the same settings.
How to use the cursive B practice sheet tool
- Type a title in “Title on the sheet”, or keep the default, Cursive B.
- Under “Letters”, choose Capital B and lowercase b, Capital B only, or Lowercase b only.
- Choose a “Line size” that fits the writer: Extra large (1 inch) for pre-K to K, Large (3/4 inch) for K to 1st, Medium (5/8 inch) for 2nd, or Small (3/8 inch) for 3rd and up.
- Set “Rows to trace the capital” and “Rows to trace the lowercase” from 0 to 4.
- Set “Rows of letter pairs (joins)” from 0 to 3.
- Pick a number of “Practice words” from Off to 8 words. You can also type up to 3 words in “Your own words (optional)”.
- Set “Blank rows to write on” from 0 to 6.
- Choose “Tracing letters” (light gray or dotted outline) and “Lines” (top line, dashed midline and baseline; top line and baseline; or baseline only).
- Choose “Color” (grayscale or blue and red lines), and turn the descender line and the big model at the top on or off.
- Select US Letter or A4 paper, then click “Print or save as PDF”.
Settings are saved in the page address, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same sheet. “New worksheet” makes a different sheet with the same settings, and “Reset settings” returns everything to the defaults.
How do you write a capital B in cursive?
Trace the gray model on the sheet, and compare it with the chart your school uses for the strokes. In this font the finished capital B reaches the top line and sits on the baseline, so it is as tall as the lowercase tall letters such as b, d and f.
The tool does not show the strokes of the letter. Use the model on the sheet to see the shape, and use your school’s chart to learn the order and direction.
How do you write a lowercase b in cursive?
Trace the gray model on the sheet, and compare it with the chart your school uses for the strokes. The finished lowercase b is a tall letter. It reaches the top line, sits on the baseline, and has a loop at the top of its tall stroke, like f, h, k and l.
Lowercase tall letters are different from capitals, even though both reach the top line. The loop at the top of the lowercase b is the easiest feature to check when you compare your letter with the model.
What does the cursive letter b look like?
The capital B and the lowercase b both reach the top line and sit on the baseline. The lowercase b has a loop at the top, so the two letters look different when you compare them side by side. In the big model row at the top of the sheet, the capital and the lowercase are shown one by one and not joined.
Letter shapes differ between handwriting programs, such as Zaner-Bloser and D’Nealian. The letter in this font follows traditional American school cursive, so check it against the chart your school uses.
Does it show the stroke order with arrows?
No. The sheet does not show stroke order or arrows. The order and direction of strokes differ between handwriting programs, and a font cannot show them correctly. The first dark letter in each row is only a model to copy.
Questions teachers and parents ask
Is this cursive practice sheet free to print?
Yes. The tool is free, and you do not need to sign up. Click "Print or save as PDF" to print the sheet on US Letter or A4 paper, or to save it as a PDF from the browser's print dialog.
Can I print only the capital or only the lowercase letter?
Yes. Under "Letters", choose Capital B only or Lowercase b only. The sheet then uses only that letter in the big model row, the trace rows and the letter pairs.
Which line size should I choose?
Choose Extra large (1 inch) for pre-K to K, Large (3/4 inch) for K to 1st, Medium (5/8 inch) for 2nd, or Small (3/8 inch) for 3rd and up. The default is Medium. Smaller lines fit more on the page.
Will the default sheet fit on one page?
Yes. The default sheet fits on one page of both US Letter and A4. At the Extra large size it is taller than one page, so use a smaller line size if you want a single page.
Why do the practice words start with b?
The built-in words are ball, bear, bird, baby, rabbit, bubble, crab and web. Five of them start with b, and the others contain it later in the word. The default sheet uses ball and bear. You can also type your own words, up to 14 letters each.
Are the letters joined on the sheet?
Only in the word rows. In the big model row and the trace rows, the capital and the lowercase letters are placed one by one. In the word rows and the letter pairs, the letters connect the way the cursive font joins them.
Can I change the letters to match my school's handwriting program?
No. The font is modeled on traditional American school cursive, and the tool cannot change letter shapes. Compare the letters on the sheet with your school's chart, and follow the chart for stroke order.
