This page makes a printable cursive E practice sheet. It covers the cursive capital E and the cursive lowercase e in traditional US cursive, so you can practice both forms on one page. The tool runs in your web browser, is free, and needs no account or sign-up.
The sheet is drawn on handwriting lines with a top line, a dashed midline and a baseline. You choose how many rows of each letter to trace, whether to add letter pairs and practice words, and how big the lines are. The preview updates as you change settings, so you can check the sheet before you print it.
How to use the cursive E worksheet tool
- Choose Letters: Capital E and lowercase e, Capital E only, or Lowercase e only.
- Set Line size for the writer: Extra large, 1 inch (pre-K–K); Large, 3/4 inch (K–1st); Medium, 5/8 inch (2nd); or Small, 3/8 inch (3rd and up).
- Set Rows to trace the capital and Rows to trace the lowercase from 0 to 4.
- Set Rows of letter pairs (joins) from 0 to 3.
- Set Practice words from Off to 8 words.
- Optional: type up to 3 words in Your own words (optional).
- Set Blank rows to write on from 0 to 6.
- Pick Tracing letters (Light gray or Dotted outline), Lines, and Color (Grayscale or Color lines).
- Check or uncheck Big model of the letter at the top and Show descender line (for loops below the baseline).
- Select Print or save as PDF. Paper size is US Letter or A4.
The address bar stores your settings, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same sheet. New worksheet makes a different sheet with the same settings, and Reset settings restores the defaults.
The built-in practice words for e are egg, elf, eagle, elephant, tree, green, desk and bee. Choose how many of them appear on the sheet, or type up to three of your own words, such as a name that contains the letter.
How do you write a capital E in cursive?
Trace the gray model on the sheet, and compare it with the chart your school uses for the strokes, since the order differs between handwriting programs. This page describes only the finished letter: in the font used here, the capital E reaches the top line and sits on the baseline. It is the tallest form of the letter on the sheet.
How do you write a lowercase e in cursive?
Trace the gray model on the sheet, then check it against your school’s chart. The finished lowercase e is a small letter. It reaches the dashed midline, not the top line, and it sits on the baseline. It does not drop below the baseline, so it matches small letters such as a, c and o in height.
What does the cursive letter e look like?
The cursive letter e is a small loop, while the capital E is a tall letter. The capital and the lowercase letter are placed one by one in the big model row and the trace rows, so they are not connected there. In the word rows, the letters join the way the cursive font connects them.
The practice words that start with e are egg, elf, eagle and elephant. The words where e comes later are tree, green, desk and bee. The letter pairs for e are eg, el, ea, le, ep, re, ee, en, de, es and be, and the default row shows eg, el and ea.
The sheet is drawn in Playwrite US Trad, a font modeled on traditional American school cursive. It is self-hosted, so nothing is requested from other websites.
Does it show the stroke order with arrows?
No. The sheet does not show stroke order or arrows. Stroke order and direction differ between handwriting programs, such as Zaner-Bloser and D’Nealian, and a font cannot show them correctly. Use the chart your school uses for the order. The first dark letter in each row is only a model to copy.
Can I print only the capital or only the lowercase letter?
Yes. Set Letters to Capital E only or Lowercase e only. The sheet then keeps only that letter’s model and trace rows, so you can use the rows for the form you need without the other letter.
Questions teachers and parents ask
Is this cursive practice sheet free to print?
Yes. The tool is free, needs no account or sign-up, and runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and you print with **Print or save as PDF**.
Can I print only the capital or only the lowercase letter?
Yes. Set **Letters** to Capital E only or Lowercase e only before you print.
Which line size should I choose?
Pick the size that matches the writer: 1 inch for pre-K to K, 3/4 inch for K to 1st, 5/8 inch for 2nd (the default), and 3/8 inch for 3rd and up.
Does the sheet fit on one page?
The default sheet fits on one page of US Letter and of A4. At 1 inch line size it is 325 mm tall, which is more than one page, so choose a smaller line size if you need a single page.
Can I add my own words?
Yes. Type up to 3 words in **Your own words**, using letters, hyphens and apostrophes only, up to 14 characters each. They are placed before the built-in words. A word too wide for one row at the chosen line size is left out, and a note appears.
Can I save the sheet as a PDF?
Yes. Select **Print or save as PDF**, or use the browser's print dialog to save it. Choose US Letter or A4 for the paper size.
Why do the letters look different from my school's?
Letter shapes differ between handwriting programs. Compare the sheet with the chart your school uses, because that chart is the one your teacher expects.
