Cursive F is the cursive form of the letter F, in both its capital and lowercase versions. This page builds a printable practice sheet for the capital F and the lowercase f in traditional US cursive, so you can trace and copy each letter on handwriting lines.
The worksheet runs in your web browser. It is free, needs no account or sign-up, and nothing is uploaded. You choose the letter forms, the line size for your grade, and how many rows of tracing and practice words you want. Then you print the sheet or save it as a PDF.
The built-in practice words for f include fish, frog and farm, and you can add up to three words of your own.
How to use the Cursive F worksheet
- Under Letters, choose Capital F and lowercase f, Capital F only, or Lowercase f only.
- Leave Big model of the letter at the top checked to show a large dark model of each letter, or uncheck it to remove that row.
- Under Line size, pick the size for your learner: Extra large, 1 inch (pre-K–K); Large, 3/4 inch (K–1st); Medium, 5/8 inch (2nd); or Small, 3/8 inch (3rd and up).
- Set Rows to trace the capital and Rows to trace the lowercase from 0 to 4.
- Set Rows of letter pairs (joins) from 0 to 3, and Practice words from Off to 8 words.
- Optionally type up to 3 words in Your own words (optional).
- Set Blank rows to write on, Tracing letters, Lines, Color, and the descender line checkbox. Choose US Letter or A4 paper and edit the Title on the sheet if you like.
- Check the preview. It updates as you change settings.
- Select Print or save as PDF.
The settings are saved in the page address, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same sheet. Reset settings restores the defaults. New worksheet makes a different sheet with the same settings, and each sheet has its own short worksheet code under the buttons.
How do you write a capital F in cursive?
Trace the gray model on the sheet, then compare it with the stroke chart your school uses, because stroke order differs between US handwriting programs such as Zaner-Bloser and D’Nealian. In the font used here, the finished capital F reaches the top line and sits on the baseline. It does not drop below the line, so it is the same height as the tall lowercase letters, and it starts a name or sentence as a capital.
How do you write a lowercase f in cursive?
Trace the dark model first, then the gray copies, and compare them with your school’s chart. The lowercase f is a lowercase tall letter: it reaches the top line, and its lower part goes below the baseline, down to the descender line. It is the one lowercase letter with a loop above the baseline and a loop below it. In the word rows, the font joins it to the next letter the way the cursive font normally does.
What does the cursive letter f look like?
The cursive f has two forms. The capital F reaches the top line and sits on the baseline, while the lowercase f reaches the top line and also goes below the baseline. Small letters such as a, c and o reach only the dashed midline, so the lowercase f stands out as a taller letter on the sheet.
Look at the big model row first. It shows both forms in dark letters, so you can see how tall each one is before you trace. The optional lighter dashed descender line marks where the lowercase f’s lower part should end.
Is this cursive practice sheet free to print?
Yes. The tool is free and needs no sign-up. It runs in your browser, and nothing you choose is uploaded. The sheet fits on one page of US Letter or A4 with the default settings.
Use Print or save as PDF to print. The browser’s print dialog can also save the sheet as a PDF file.
Does it show the stroke order with arrows?
No. The sheet does not show stroke order or arrows. Stroke order and direction differ between handwriting programs, and a font cannot show them correctly. The first dark letter in each row is only a model to copy, so use your school’s chart for the strokes.
Can I print only the capital or only the lowercase letter?
Yes. Under Letters, choose Capital F only or Lowercase f only. Then set the trace rows for the letter you want. The big model row and the trace rows follow the letter choice, so the sheet only shows the form you picked.
How do I make sure the sheet fits on one page?
The default sheet fits on one page of US Letter and A4. The Extra large, 1 inch setting makes the sheet taller, about 325 mm with the default rows, so it will spill onto more than one page. Choose a smaller line size or fewer rows if you want one page.
Questions teachers and parents ask
Is my worksheet uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. No account or sign-up is needed.
Why do the letters look different from my school's chart?
Letter shapes differ between handwriting programs, such as Zaner-Bloser and D'Nealian. The font here is modeled on traditional American school cursive, so compare it with the chart your school uses.
What are the letter pairs?
The letter pairs row shows two-letter pieces from the practice words that contain f next to a neighbor, such as fi, fr and fa. The default row shows three pairs, each once as a dark model and once as a gray copy to trace.
Can I add my own words?
Yes. Type up to 3 words in **Your own words (optional)**. Use letters, hyphens and apostrophes only, up to 14 characters each. Your words are placed before the built-in words. A word too wide for one row at your chosen line size is left out, and a note appears.
Can I get the same sheet again later?
Yes. Bookmark the page or copy its address, because the settings are stored in the address. Opening that link shows the same sheet. The worksheet code under the buttons identifies each sheet.
Which line size should I choose?
Match the line size to the learner's grade: Extra large, 1 inch for pre-K–K; Large, 3/4 inch for K–1st; Medium, 5/8 inch for 2nd; and Small, 3/8 inch for 3rd and up.
Should I use dotted tracing or light gray letters?
Both work for tracing. Light gray is the default. A dotted outline uses little ink, which helps if you are printing many copies.
