This free cursive K practice sheet tool creates a printable worksheet for the cursive K letter in traditional US cursive, both the capital K and the lowercase k. You choose which letters appear, the line size, how many rows to trace, and whether to add practice words, then print the sheet or save it as a PDF.
The tool runs in your web browser. Nothing is uploaded, and you do not need an account or sign-up. The sheet preview updates as soon as you change a setting, so you can check the result before you print.
The sheet is drawn on handwriting lines: a solid top line, a dashed midline and a solid baseline. Dark model letters sit at the top of each row, with lighter copies below for your child to trace.
How to use the Cursive K practice sheet tool
- Under Letters, choose Capital K and lowercase k, Capital K only, or Lowercase k only.
- Under Line size, pick Extra large (1 inch, pre-K–K), Large (3/4 inch, K–1st), Medium (5/8 inch, 2nd) or Small (3/8 inch, 3rd and up).
- Set Rows to trace the capital and Rows to trace the lowercase from 0 to 4 each.
- Set Rows of letter pairs (joins) from 0 to 3.
- Set Practice words to Off, or to between 1 and 8 words.
- Optionally, type up to 3 of your own words in Your own words (optional).
- Set Blank rows to write on, Tracing letters (light gray or dotted outline), Lines and Color.
- Turn the Big model of the letter at the top and Show descender line checkboxes on or off.
- Choose the paper size, US Letter or A4, and change Title on the sheet if you want.
- Click Print or save as PDF.
Reset settings restores the defaults. New worksheet makes a different sheet with the same settings, and each sheet has a short worksheet code shown under the buttons. All settings are saved in the page address after the #, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same sheet again.
The built-in practice words for k are kite, king, key, kitten, milk, book, duck and skip. Choose how many of them appear on the sheet, or type up to three of your own words, such as a name that contains the letter.
How do you write a capital K in cursive?
Trace the gray model on the sheet, then compare it with the chart your child’s school uses for the strokes. Stroke order differs between US handwriting programs such as Zaner-Bloser and D’Nealian, so the chart from school is the reference to follow. In the font used here, the finished cursive capital K reaches the top line and sits on the baseline, the same height as other capitals.
How do you write a lowercase k in cursive?
Trace the gray lowercase model and check your letter against your school’s chart, since this sheet does not show the strokes. The finished lowercase k is a lowercase tall letter: it reaches the top line, like b, d, f, h and l, and it sits on the baseline. It has a loop at the top of its tall stroke, and it does not go below the baseline.
What does the cursive letter k look like?
The cursive letter k is a lowercase tall letter with a loop at the top of its tall stroke, the same kind of loop found in b, f, h and l. The capital K is a separate form that also reaches the top line and sits on the baseline. In the word rows, the lowercase k joins the letters next to it the way the font joins them. In the trace rows, each letter is placed on its own.
Is this cursive practice sheet free to print?
Yes. The tool is free, needs no sign-up, and runs in your browser without uploading anything. Click Print or save as PDF to print on US Letter or A4, or use the browser’s print dialog to save a PDF.
Does it show the stroke order with arrows?
No. The sheet has no stroke order and no arrows, because the order and direction of strokes differ between handwriting programs and a font cannot show them correctly. The first dark letter in each row is only a model to copy. Use your school’s chart to learn the strokes.
Can I print only the capital or only the lowercase letter?
Yes. Set Letters to Capital K only to print the cursive capital K, or to Lowercase k only to print the cursive lowercase k. Choose Capital K and lowercase k to print both on the same sheet.
Questions teachers and parents ask
Which line size should my child use?
Use Extra large (1 inch) for pre-K through K, Large (3/4 inch) for K through 1st grade, Medium (5/8 inch) for 2nd grade, or Small (3/8 inch) for 3rd grade and up. The default is Medium.
Does the default sheet fit on one page?
Yes. The default sheet is 221 mm tall plus the heading line, and it fits on one page of US Letter and of A4. At Extra large it becomes 325 mm tall and runs onto more than one page.
Can I add my own words?
Yes, you can add up to 3 words. Use letters, hyphens and apostrophes only, with up to 14 characters each. Your words go before the built-in words. A word too wide for the chosen line size is left out, and a note appears.
What is the difference between light gray and dotted outline tracing?
Light gray prints the tracing letters as pale solid letters. A dotted outline prints them as dotted lines and uses little ink. The dark model letters are always black.
Can I save the sheet as a PDF?
Yes. Click Print or save as PDF, then choose the option to save as PDF in the browser's print dialog. Set the paper size to US Letter or A4 before you save.
How do I keep my settings for later?
Bookmark the page or copy its address, since the settings are stored after the #. Opening that link brings back the same sheet. Reset settings returns every option to its default.
