This free cursive V practice sheet prints a worksheet for the capital V and the lowercase v in traditional US cursive. It runs in your web browser, nothing is uploaded, and no account or sign-up is needed.

The sheet has a big model of the letter at the top, rows to trace the capital V and the lowercase v, rows of letter pairs and practice words, and blank rows to write on. You choose the line size, the number of rows and the paper size before you print or save it as a PDF. Capital cursive v and cursive lowercase v both appear on the same sheet by default, and you can switch either one off.

How to use the Cursive V practice sheet

The preview updates as soon as you change a setting, so you can check the sheet before you print it.

  1. Under Letters, choose Capital V and lowercase v (the default), Capital V only, or Lowercase v only.
  2. Under Line size, pick the size that fits the writer: Extra large, 1 inch (pre-K–K); Large, 3/4 inch (K–1st); Medium, 5/8 inch (2nd, the default); or Small, 3/8 inch (3rd and up).
  3. Keep Big model of the letter at the top on to see both letters in dark type, or turn it off.
  4. Set Rows to trace the capital and Rows to trace the lowercase from 0 to 4. The default is 1 row each.
  5. Set Rows of letter pairs (joins) from 0 to 3.
  6. Under Practice words, choose Off or 1 to 8 words. The default is 2.
  7. Optionally type up to 3 words in Your own words. Use letters, hyphens and apostrophes only, up to 14 characters each.
  8. Set Blank rows to write on from 0 to 6.
  9. Choose Tracing letters (Light gray or Dotted outline), Lines, and Color (Grayscale or Color lines in blue and red).
  10. Turn Show descender line on or off, then choose the paper size (US Letter or A4) and edit the Title on the sheet if needed.
  11. Click Print or save as PDF.

Your settings are stored in the page address after the #, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same sheet. New worksheet makes a different sheet with the same settings, and Reset settings returns every control to its default.

How do you write a capital V in cursive?

Trace the gray model on the sheet, then compare it with the chart your school uses, because stroke order differs between handwriting programs such as Zaner-Bloser and D’Nealian. In the font on this page, the finished capital V reaches the top line and sits on the baseline, so it is as tall as the tall lowercase letters b, d, f, h, k, l and t.

Because the capital V is tall, it is the first letter you will see in the trace row. Compare its height with the lowercase v below it to see how much shorter the small letter is.

How do you write a lowercase v in cursive?

Trace the gray model on the sheet and compare it with your school’s chart for the strokes. In the font used here, the lowercase v is a small letter: it reaches the dashed midline, not the top line, and it sits on the baseline.

Like b, o and w, the lowercase v joins to the next letter from the top of the letter rather than from the baseline. The letter pairs row shows this joining with va, ve, vi and iv, so practice those pairs after the single letter.

What does the cursive letter v look like?

The cursive letter v comes in two sizes: the capital V and the lowercase v. The capital reaches the top line, and the lowercase reaches the dashed midline, and both sit on the baseline. Neither letter has a tail that drops below the baseline, so the descender line does not apply to v.

The big model row shows both letters in dark type, which makes the height difference easy to see. The first dark letter in each trace row is a model, and the gray copies after it are for you to trace.

Is this cursive practice sheet free to print?

Yes. The tool is free, needs no sign-up, and does not upload anything; it draws the sheet in your browser. The default sheet fits on one page of US Letter and of A4, and you can print or save it as a PDF with the browser’s print dialog.

Larger line sizes make the sheet longer. At Extra large, 1 inch, the default sheet is 325 mm tall, which is more than one page, so check the preview before printing.

Does it show the stroke order with arrows?

No. The sheet has no stroke order and no arrows. Stroke order and direction differ between handwriting programs, and a font cannot show them correctly, so this page does not claim one.

Use the gray model as a copy guide, and check the strokes against the chart your school uses.

Can I print only the capital or only the lowercase letter?

Yes. Set Letters to Capital V only or Lowercase v only. You can also set Rows to trace the capital or Rows to trace the lowercase to 0 to remove one trace row while keeping the other.

Questions teachers and parents ask

Which paper sizes does the sheet support?

The sheet can be set to US Letter or A4. The default layout fits on one page of either size, so you do not need to change the size for the standard settings.

Can I add my own practice words?

Yes. Type up to 3 words in **Your own words**, using letters, hyphens and apostrophes only, with up to 14 characters each. Your words are placed before the built-in words, and any word too wide for one row at the chosen line size is left out with a note.

Which line size should I choose for a young child?

Choose Extra large, 1 inch for pre-K to K, or Large, 3/4 inch for K to 1st grade. Use Small, 3/8 inch for 3rd grade and up, and Medium, 5/8 inch for 2nd grade, which is the default.

Which practice words contain the letter v?

The built-in list is a short set of common, kid-friendly words: van, vest, vase, violin, river, seven, five and love. The first four start with v, and the default sheet uses van and vest.

Which letter pairs are on the sheet?

The pairs are built from the practice words: va, ve, vi, iv, ev and ov. The default row shows va, ve, vi and iv, each once as a dark model and once as a gray copy to trace.

Why are some trace letters dark and others gray?

The first letter in each row is a dark model for you to copy, and the gray copies after it are for tracing. If you want less ink, choose **Tracing letters** set to Dotted outline, which uses little ink.

Will my settings still be there if I come back later?

They will if you save the page address. Every setting is stored in the link after the #, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same sheet. Use **Reset settings** to return to the defaults.
