Comparing Three-Digit Numbers Worksheets

  • CCSS 2.NBT.A.4
  • 20 problems per set
  • Answer key included

What this skill is

Comparing three-digit numbers: hundreds first, then tens, then ones.

When it comes up: Second grade.

The mistake to watch for

Comparing from the right. Always start at the left, with the biggest place value.

How to help

Line the numbers up in a place-value chart and compare one column at a time, starting with the hundreds.

Next: Rounding in third grade.

A worked example

Compare 348 and 384. Hundreds: 3 and 3 are the same. Tens: 4 is less than 8, so 348 < 384. You never need to look at the ones.
