Multiplication: 2 to 5 Worksheets
What this skill is
Multiplication facts with factors from 2 to 5.
When it comes up: Early third grade.
The mistake to watch for
Skip counting up from zero for every fact — correct but too slow to support division and fractions later.
How to help
Anchor on the 5s and 2s first, which children already know from clocks and counting. Then 3s and 4s can be reasoned from them.
Next: Facts 6 to 9.
A worked example
Try 4 × 6. That is four groups of 6: 6, 12, 18, 24. So 4 × 6 = 24. You can also double 6 to get 12, then double again to get 24.
Words to know
- multiply
- To add the same number again and again, in a faster way.
- product
- The answer you get when you multiply.
- times
- The word we say for multiply. 3 times 4 means 3 × 4.
- group
- A set of things put together, like 4 groups of 3 apples.
- double
- Two times as much. The double of 6 is 12.
Practice
Multiply.
