Rounding to the Nearest 10 or 100 Worksheets

  • CCSS 3.NBT.A.1
  • 20 problems per set
  • Answer key included

What this skill is

Rounding a whole number to the nearest 10 or 100 by finding which multiple it is closest to.

When it comes up: Third grade.

The mistake to watch for

Looking at the wrong digit, or always rounding down. A digit of 5 or more rounds up.

How to help

Put the number on a number line between two tens (or hundreds) and see which end is closer.

Next: Rounding larger numbers in fourth grade.

A worked example

Round 683 to the nearest ten. It sits between 680 and 690. The ones digit is 3, which is less than 5, so it rounds down to 680. To the nearest hundred, look at the tens digit, 8: it is 5 or more, so 683 rounds up to 700.
