Decimals: Tenths and Hundredths Worksheets

  • CCSS 4.NF.C.6
  • 20 problems per set

What this skill is

Writing fractions with 10 or 100 on the bottom as decimals, and writing decimals as fractions.

When it comes up: Fourth grade, after fractions.

The mistake to watch for

Writing 7/100 as 0.7 instead of 0.07 — leaving out the zero that holds the tenths place.

How to help

Use a place-value chart: hundredths need two places after the point. 7/100 has no tenths, so it is 0.07.

Next: Decimal operations in fifth grade.

A worked example

Write 7/100 as a decimal. Hundredths need two places after the point, and there are no tenths, so 7/100 = 0.07. Compare 7/10 = 0.7.

Words to know

decimal
A number written with a point to show parts smaller than one, like 0.5.
tenths
The first place after the decimal point. 0.3 means 3 tenths.
hundredths
The second place after the decimal point. 0.07 means 7 hundredths.
fraction
A number that names equal parts of a whole, like 3/4.
place
Where a digit sits in a number: ones, tens or hundreds.

Practice

Write each number in its other form.
