Rounding Decimals Worksheets

  • CCSS 5.NBT.A.4
  • 20 problems per set
  • Answer key included

What this skill is

Rounding a decimal to the nearest tenth or hundredth.

When it comes up: Fifth grade.

The mistake to watch for

Looking at the wrong digit. To round to the nearest tenth, look at the hundredths digit, not the tenths digit.

How to help

Underline the place you are rounding to, circle the digit right after it, and decide: 5 or more rounds up.

Next: Dividing with decimals in sixth grade.

A worked example

Round 3.746 to the nearest hundredth. The hundredths digit is 4 and the next digit is 6, which is 5 or more, so round up: 3.75. To the nearest tenth, look at the hundredths digit 4: it is less than 5, so 3.7.

Words to know

hundredths

decimal
A number written with a point to show parts smaller than one, like 0.5.
