Math
Volume of Boxes
Volume is the space inside a box, found by multiplying length, width and height, and measured in cubic units. Fifth grade.
The mistake to watch for. Adding the three sides, or giving the answer in square units. Volume counts cubes.
How to help. Build a small box from unit cubes. Count the cubes in the bottom layer (length × width), then multiply by the number of layers (height).
A worked example
A box is 4 cm long, 3 cm wide and 2 cm tall. The bottom layer has 4 × 3 = 12 cubes, and there are 2 layers: 12 × 2 = 24. The volume is 24 cubic cm.
