Kindergarten math worksheets should give a child one clear job on each page: count the pictures, write the number, find the group with more, fill in the missing number, add two groups, or name a shape. This page makes those sheets, one activity per page, with an answer key. It runs in your web browser, it is free, and nothing is uploaded.
It uses the same generator as the kindergarten worksheets page, without the letter activity, so every choice in the menu is math. The pictures are simple drawings, so the sheets print clearly in black and white. A kindergartner usually needs a grown-up to read the instructions aloud.
You can use what you make here in class or in things you sell, such as Etsy printables and Teachers Pay Teachers, with no credit needed.

How to make a kindergarten math worksheet
- Type a heading in Title on the sheet. It starts as Kindergarten Math.
- Choose an Activity: Count and write the number, Count and circle the number, Which group has more or fewer, Missing numbers, Trace the number and color the boxes, Picture addition, Picture subtraction (cross out), Shapes, Patterns, or a Mixed review page with four small sections.
- Set the controls that appear for that activity. For counting, pick Count up to (5, 10 or 20). For tracing, pick Numbers (1 to 5 or 1 to 10). For addition and subtraction, pick Numbers within (5 or 10). For missing numbers, pick how high the numbers go (10, 20 or 100) and how many blanks are in each row.
- Choose a Pictures type, or leave it on Mixed to get a different picture on each problem.
- Choose Spacing: Fill the page, or Fewer problems, more room for larger writing spaces.
- Keep Include answer key ticked to print the key on its own page.
- Select Print or save as PDF. Use New worksheet for a different sheet with the same settings, and Reset settings to go back to the defaults.
Choose US Letter or A4 in the print dialog. The page address stores your settings, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same sheet again.
What math do kindergartners learn?
Kindergarten math in the Common Core covers counting to 100 and counting to tell how many (K.CC), comparing groups (K.CC.C.6), adding and subtracting within 10 with objects and drawings (K.OA), and naming shapes (K.G). The activities on this page follow those goals: counting and writing numbers, more or fewer, picture addition and subtraction and shapes. Patterns are a common kindergarten activity but not a Common Core kindergarten standard.
Which activity should a child start with?
Start with Count and circle the number or Trace the number and color the boxes at a small count, up to 5. Both ask for one clear answer. Then move to Count and write the number, Which group has more, and Missing numbers. Picture addition comes after the child can count up to 10 with confidence. Keep the same activity for several days, with the numbers getting a little bigger, before you move to a new one.
How do I make math worksheets for pre-K?
Use the smallest settings: Count up to 5, Numbers 1 to 5, Numbers within 5, and Fewer problems, more room. Use a real object for each number before you use the page, such as blocks or buttons, so the pictures stand for something the child has already counted.
How long should a kindergarten math session be?
Short. One page, then a break, is plenty at this age. Each sheet is made to fit on one page, so one sheet is a natural session. Stop when attention drops even if the page is not finished, and keep the same activity for a few days before you switch so the skill has time to settle.
What is the difference between count and write and count and circle?
In Count and circle the number, the child counts the pictures and picks the right number from a few choices, so no writing is needed. In Count and write the number, the child counts and writes the number. Circling is a good first step, especially for children who are still learning to form their numbers. When the child writes numbers well, move to writing, and use Trace the number and color the boxes for practice forming each digit.
Questions teachers and parents ask
Are these kindergarten math worksheets free?
Yes. The sheets are made in your web browser, nothing is uploaded, and no account or sign-up is needed.
How is this different from the kindergarten worksheets page?
It is the same generator with the letter activity removed, so every activity is math. The kindergarten worksheets page also has Find the letter.
Can I make a math sheet with only shapes?
Yes. Choose Shapes in the Activity menu. You can find and color one shape, or name each shape, and choose from four basic shapes up to eight shapes.
Do the sheets have an answer key?
Yes. The key prints on its own page after the sheet. Untick Include answer key if you do not want it.
What are the pictures?
They are simple drawings of apples, balls, fish, stars, hearts and flowers, and basic shapes. Pick one kind of picture or leave it on Mixed.
How many problems are on a sheet?
The page is filled with as many as fit on one sheet. Choose Fewer problems, more room for bigger writing spaces.
Can I sell the worksheets I make here?
Yes. The sheets you make here are royalty-free for personal, classroom and commercial use, including Etsy printables, Teachers Pay Teachers and Amazon KDP workbooks. You do not need to give credit. The only limit is that you may not copy the generator itself to run a competing service; see the [terms](/terms/).
