This free math worksheet generator makes printable math worksheets in a few clicks. You tick the operations you want (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), set a range for each, and print one sheet that mixes them, with an answer key on its own page. It runs in your web browser, so nothing is uploaded, and no account or sign-up is needed.

Use it for math drill, math facts practice, or math practice sheets for a class or your own child. Ranges start with numbers within 10 for early learners, which suits kindergarten math practice sheets, and go up to 3-digit and 2-digit by 2-digit problems for older students. You also choose how many problems appear, how many columns fit on the page, and whether the sheet is mixed or grouped by operation.

How to use the Math Worksheet Generator

  1. Type a heading in Title on the sheet. It starts as Math Practice.
  2. Tick the operations you want: Addition (+), Subtraction (−), Multiplication (×) and Division (÷). All four start ticked, so untick any you do not need.
  3. Open Addition range and pick Within 10, Within 20, 2-digit numbers (the default), 3-digit numbers or 4-digit numbers.
  4. Open Subtraction range and pick from the same five choices.
  5. Open Multiplication range and pick Facts up to 5 × 5, Facts up to 10 × 10 (the default), Facts up to 12 × 12, 2 digits × 1 digit, 3 digits × 1 digit or 2 digits × 2 digits.
  6. Open Division range and pick one of its four choices. Then set Division remainders to No remainders (the default) or Some remainders.
  7. Set Order to Mixed together (the default) or Grouped by operation.
  8. Set Problems (10 to 40, default 20), Columns (2 to 6, default 3) and Layout (Across or Stacked).
  9. Keep Include answer key ticked if you want the key. The preview updates after each change.
  10. Click Print or save as PDF. You can also use the browser’s print dialog to save a PDF.

Each sheet has a short worksheet code under the buttons. Click New worksheet for a different sheet with the same settings. The page address stores your settings, so a bookmarked or shared link opens the same sheet again. Reset settings returns everything to the defaults.

How do I make a math worksheet with mixed operations?

Tick each operation you want, and the generator shares the problems out as evenly as possible between the ticked ones. With 20 problems and all four operations ticked, you get 5 of each, mixed across the page. If you untick multiplication and division, the same 20 problems split between addition and subtraction, 10 each.

Mixing works well for review because each problem needs a different method, so the student has to decide which operation to use every time.

Can I choose a different range for each operation?

Yes. Each operation has its own range control, so one sheet can use small numbers for addition and larger ones for division. For example, you could set addition and subtraction to Within 20, multiplication to Facts up to 12 × 12, and division to 2-digit answers dividing by 2 to 9.

The ranges follow a few simple rules. Within 10 and Within 20 use numbers from 1 up to the limit. Facts up to 12 × 12 start the factors at 2. In subtraction, the first number is always larger than the second, so every answer is positive. Division answers always come out as whole numbers unless you choose Some remainders.

Which math worksheets suit each grade?

Choose a range that matches what the student has practiced, because the stages below are only a starting point. For kindergarten, use addition and subtraction within 10 with one or two operations ticked. For 3rd grade, use Within 20 for addition and subtraction, and Facts up to 10 × 10 for multiplication.

For 4th grade, try 2-digit or 3-digit addition and subtraction, 2 digits × 1 digit multiplication, and division facts up to 12. For 5th grade, try 2 digits × 2 digits multiplication, 3-digit answers when dividing by 2 to 9, and Some remainders for division. If a sheet feels too easy or too hard, move one range up or down.

Should problems be mixed together or grouped by operation?

Mixed together is the default, and it suits review because the student must recognise which operation each problem needs. Grouped by operation suits a lesson on one new skill, because the sheet prints addition first, then subtraction, multiplication and division.

Use grouped when a student is learning an operation for the first time, and mixed when they are practicing skills they already know.

Questions teachers and parents ask

Is this math worksheet generator free?

Yes. It runs in your web browser, nothing is uploaded, and no account or sign-up is needed.

Are the answers checked?

Yes. Every answer is checked a second way before its problem is used: column-by-column addition, adding the answer back for subtraction, digit-by-digit multiplication, and digit-by-digit long division. Problems are never repeated on a sheet.

Will the answer key print on the same page?

No. The answer key prints on its own page after the worksheet. Division answers with a remainder are written like 7 R3.

Does the sheet fit on one page?

At the default settings, the worksheet fits on one page, and the answer key prints on a separate page after it.

Can I use this for math drill or math facts practice?

Yes. Tick only multiplication, set Facts up to 10 × 10 or Facts up to 12 × 12, and choose 40 problems. The whole sheet then practices one set of facts.

What happens if I untick every operation?

The sheet uses addition and shows a note saying so. Tick at least one operation to get the mix you want.

Can I print on A4 paper?

Yes. The paper size can be set to US Letter or A4.

What does a sample sheet look like?

A sheet with all four operations, 2-digit addition and subtraction, facts up to 10 × 10, division facts by 2 to 9, no remainders and 8 problems could include 16 + 72 = 88, 20 − 19 = 1, 5 × 2 = 10 and 49 ÷ 7 = 7. Your own sheet will use different numbers each time you click New worksheet.
